A long weekend with Shawn

Had some trouble getting Shawn to eat outside food. He did finish his food just that he refused to eat on his own especially on Saturday. The rest of the days were pretty breezy, I supposed he kinda got used to it. Indeed, this was his new experience of food over the weekend... :)

Ah Mi is cooking this week!

On Monday, I've got a toddler screaming down the alley for food while he was watching Sesame street video and then Animal Planet. I needed half an hour at least... Anyway, 40min was the deal!
Mon : Minced pork ball and bubbly egg soup, fried cabbage and greens, steamed cod fish
Tue : Minced pork, Xiao Bai Chye and wholegrain pasta soup (Meanwhile we had yummy stewed pork with carrots/potato, boiled Xiao Bai Chye)












Wed : We ate out at Istanbul downstairs... Shawn loved the pan tofu!
Thrus : Breakfast - Oats with a drop of Bovril; Lunch - Batang fish, mushroom, chinese spinach porridge; Dinner - Chicken soup, Steamed pork with egg and fried Chye Sim

Fried Cabbage Chicken rice


I learnt this from Joanne. Yesterday I prepared sliced chicken thigh meat and lots of cabbage, 4 mushrooms and some carrots. Fried them in the wok, add some pepper and soy sauce. Later then I added the grains of rice into it. Then chuck the whole lot into the rice cooker and cook it as per normal. It came out nice!!! Shawn and YT loved it.

It's been a long time since I wrote what Shawn has been eating. Lazy... and I hadn't been cooking dinners for us the adults for about 3wks now. This week is meat week for dinners at home

Mon - 1/4cup of wholegrain pasta + 1 big white button mushroom + minced pork + broccoli - all in a bowl
Tues - 4tbspn of white grain rice + 1tbspn of Barley / Minced pork, 1 big white button mushroom and Kai Lan soup
Wed - 5tbspoon of oats + 1 egg + 1 big white button mushroom and Kai Lan - all in a bowl
Thrus - 3tbspn of brown rice porridge / Stir fried minced beef, 1 big white button mushroom and broccoli

Simplicity... yummy

I was watching David Rocco's Dolve Vita yesterday on channel16 (in between CSI advert). There's this super simple recipe that sounds yummy indeed.

Half some cherry tomatoes and toss them into olive oil with some garlic.
Lightly stir fry until the tomatoes begin to soften.
Add in boiled pasta and grated pepperoni cheese (heaps of them) and stir.
Top with some basil.
Ready to serve in minutes - add heaps of pepperoni cheese again and eat.

That reminds me of my aglia olio with cili padi.
One day... I'll cook the above for Shawn (minus cili padi)

Gai Choy Soup

Last night was a trial with tomatoes. My mum cooked Gai Choy soup (Chinese mustard cabbage), with tomatoes and pork ribs. He loved the soup a lot! Yummy - if it's not for Shawn, we would have put chilli in. Hahaa... He had it with steamed pork/egg.

Toddler nutrition - readups!

I have slacked in reading up on toddler nutrition, meal plan etc. Just to share a few sites on what should and what nots on growing up bubs. I have been cooking mostly CINA style meals for Shawn. He has been eating well but one part of me worries that I am overfeeding him especially on the carbos. So far, he has not shown any allergy to new food introduced (even eatouts are fine so far.. touchwood). I am still trying to follow the 4-day rule and I am still abstaining him from strawberries and tomatoes.

Post CNY diet

6Jan09 Butterry Sauteed ABC Pasta with Egg plant ++


What's required:
2 1/2handful of ABC pasta (boiled 10min)
About 1/2inch of egg plant (sliced then steamed 5min)
A teeny bit of butter
Grated Australian mild cheese
...and a good 20minutes for prep and cooking

After melting the butter, add on everything to sautee for a few short minutes
Add mild cheese to get the mozarella melt effect.

I know, I know... this is weird combination. But I tasted it and it's good! :)
And Shawn ate up everything. And I did another funny thing, I added steamed cod fish as topping to the sauteed main course (1/2 way thru his meal)!!!

Vegetarian dinner


As usual by the end of the week, I ran out of meat/fish. So made do with whatever we have in the fridge. Steamed brocolli, carrots and green peas with brown rice porridge

Not so creamy Cream of Brocolli

I tried making cream of brocolli by following the Super Baby Food book recipe (less 1cup of formula milk required and substituted with water). It was not creamy at all. Anyway I thought it tasted sweet after I added the FM and butter. And since it turned out to be watery, I decided to add these :
- 3handful of ABC pasta
- Chopped raw carrots for toppings
- Baby biscotti

This was the outcome (picture perfect meal + a very sleepy and oh-so-full toddler) :
